Today’s Hadith is about: The insignificance of this world in parallel to the hereafter
“Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) happened to walk through the bazaar coming from the side of ‘Aliya and people were on both sides of him. There he found a dead lamb with very short ears. He took hold of its ear and said: ‘Who amongst you would like to have this for a dirham?’ They said: ‘We would not like to have it even for less than that as it is of no use to us.’ He said: ‘Do you wish to have it (free of any cost)?’ They said: ‘By Allah, even if it were alive (we would not have liked to possess it), for there is defect in it, as its ear is very short; on top of that it is dead now.’ Thereupon, Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: ‘By Allah, this world is more insignificant in the eyes of Allah than (this dead lamb) is in your eyes.’” [ Muslim ]
This hadith is a brilliant reminder of the unimportance of this world; yet think about how much amount we worry for it. Our stresses for the things of this world ought to be progressively proportionate to their significance. We ask Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to give us eternity, endless life.
Over that we need it in a spot superior to anything we can envision. In it we hope to have youth for ever, no clamor, nothing unpleasant, no stresses.
In this everlasting life, in Paradise, we likewise hope to get increasingly lovely and appreciate more extravagances as time passes, albeit after the principal day we can’t envision that anything could be better. We expect never to be isolated from our friends and family, or feel anything aside from positive feelings. As an end-result of this, when Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) approaches us to obey Him for only 70-80 years, perhaps somewhat more or somewhat less, we think it to an extreme? He is approaching you for a drop, while you are approaching Him for the sea!
This hadith likewise represents what an outstanding teacher Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) was. We realise what effect visual guides have.
